White Star Service

Cunard call it White Star Service, because it is a shining example of how best to treat each of their guests. Cunard feels like another world, yet also as welcoming as home: comfort, courtesy and everything just the way you like it.

Their crew believe great service is warm and sincere, never stuffy or pretend: there when you call, otherwise almost imperceptible. From the first greeting when you embark to the way your stateroom steward greets you by name, it is the small details that make the difference.

The four Queens

  • Queen Anne
  • Queen Elizabeth
  • Queen Mary 2
  • Queen Victoria

Cunard ships have crossed the Atlantic to and from New York since 1847. Today only Queen Mary 2 regularly makes that crossing, as glamorous as ever and still one of travel's most iconic experiences.

Cunard has undertaken more world voyages than any other passenger line, and its world voyage was chosen as "Best World Cruise" in Porthole Cruise & Travel Magazine's 2023 Readers' Choice Awards.

What to expect

  • The details are delightful. Cunard's crew take great pride in the little things that make a stay unforgettable.
  • The spaces are uncrowded. Broad open decks and airy atriums mean there is always a restful spot or a lively one to suit your mood.
  • The signature experiences are uniquely Cunard. Afternoon Tea, spectacular Gala Balls and West End-calibre shows are part of every voyage.
  • The dining is flexible. Beyond your main restaurant, you can eat all through the day, from hearty to healthy and light bites to fine dining.
  • The wine collections are hand-picked. The Commodore's Collection and the Captain's Collection come in 6 or 12 bottles and cost less than buying each bottle separately.
  • Families are welcome. The Play Zone has areas for each age group, a fully trained Youth Team looks after them, and there is even a night nanny service.

Staterooms and the Grills

Britannia and Britannia Club Balcony staterooms suit every voyage, and single staterooms (Britannia Inside and Oceanview) are available on Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth.

The Grills Suites are Cunard's finest. Princess Grill and Queens Grill guests have the Grills Lounge and Terrace, a Grill Concierge, and priority check-in and disembarkation. Queens Grill adds a dedicated butler, a private in-suite bar, pre-dinner canapés in your suite and priority tender service. Princess Grill guests dine in the Princess Grill Restaurant, and Queens Grill guests in the Queens Grill Restaurant.

Sailing from South Africa

Cunard's Queens sail from South Africa on world cruise sectors, and from 2027 Queen Victoria, Queen Mary 2, Queen Anne and Queen Elizabeth sail to and from Cape Town. You can start at home, or end with an arrival beneath Table Mountain.

Minki van der Westhuizen has sailed with Cunard from Mauritius to Cape Town on Queen Mary 2 with her mother, and from Durban to Cape Town on Queen Anne with her husband.

We travelled on Cunard's Queen Anne from Durban to Cape Town for four days in April 2025. The word majestic comes to mind, we were blown away with her beauty and elegance. The crew made our stay memorable and every single meal was outstanding. Our cabin was beautiful with the most comfortable mattress and bedding. Whitestar Cruise & Travel, Cunard's representatives in South Africa, thank you for the amazing service and support to your clients. It is always a pleasure to book through you.

Marga, from our testimonials

Cunard once more lived up to it's reputation of relaxed luxury, with attention to detail and top quality delivery. My experience during my journey from Cape Town to Southampton aboard the Queen Anne was exceptional with first class entertainment and fascinating talks and insights. I look forward to my next cruise with Cunard and will once more engage the services of Jacqui Coupland from White Star who has dealt with my past reservations professionally and cheerfully.

Questions about Cunard

How do I book a Cunard cruise from South Africa?

Talk to a Whitestar cruise specialist. We are Cunard's representative in Southern Africa, and we will guide you through the voyages, the staterooms and the booking.

Do Cunard ships sail from South Africa?

Yes. Cunard sails from South Africa on specific world cruise sectors, and from 2027 the Queens sail to and from Cape Town.

What is the dress code on board?

By day, relaxed dress is welcome everywhere except Afternoon Tea, when smart casual is requested. From 18:00, Cunard invites guests to wear elegant clothes in the bars, restaurants and entertainment venues, though you can dress more casually at the buffet. Sportswear and swimwear are for the gym, spa and decks.

Can I bring my own wine on board?

One bottle of wine or champagne per person (750 ml or less) is permitted, and a bottle of spirits may be taken on board as well. A corkage fee is charged if you drink your own wine in a restaurant.

Can I sail only part of a cruise?

Yes. You can embark or disembark at a port other than the published start and finish, but the full fare for the original itinerary still applies.

What currency is used on board, and are gratuities included?

Cunard uses US dollars on board. Gratuities are payable on board only: they are added to your on board account, and can be paid with on board credit where you have it.

How much luggage can I take?

Cunard has no limit on luggage on board; your airline sets the practical limit. There is a 23 kg weight limit on each piece of checked luggage, and all luggage is stored in your stateroom.

Is Cunard all-inclusive?

Your fare includes your accommodation, fine dining, entertainment and service. Alternative dining venues, drinks, spa treatments, shopping and shore excursions cost extra.

What plugs and voltage are on board?

Staterooms have UK 3-pin and US 2-pin sockets (220 V and 110 V), and Queen Anne also has USB sockets.

Is laundry free on Cunard?

Every accommodation deck has a complimentary self-service launderette. Dry cleaning is available at an extra charge.
